Dehradun. Banshidhar Tiwari, Chief Executive Officer of Uttarakhand Film Development Council, today met well -known actor Sunny Deol and director Anurag Singh on the set of Border 2 in Halduwala, Dehradun. He was accompanied by Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, joint CEO of the council on this occasion. During the meeting, there was a meaningful discussion on Uttarakhand’s film policy, location diversity and support being given by the state government.
Uttarakhand’s current film policy led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is considered one of the most progressive policies in the country, where filmmakers get timely shooting, administrative cooperation and spontaneous availability of local resources.
Tiwari said that the kind of positive and easy atmosphere that the film unit is getting here makes the state a strong destination in terms of filmmaking. Sunny Deol also looked quite comfortable and excited during this period.
Talking about Border 2, the film is being produced in the production of JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta and T-series, which has been shooting in Dehradun since February. Kesari fame Anurag Singh is its director and includes prominent actors like Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahaan Shetty.
The film’s producer Binoy Gandhi said that the film is based on the Indo-Pak war of 1971 and for this a grand set of a village in Kashmir has been made in Halduwala area of Dehradun. The set construction started in November last year.
The film includes scenes such as war scenes, tanks and army movements and its visual presentation is also very important in terms of VFX. The film’s art director is Mayur Sharma and is playing the responsibility of action direction Ravi Verma, who has been appreciated for his work in films like Jat earlier. About 350 local people are getting work daily from this project.
Apart from the film Border 2, many major films are currently going on in Uttarakhand. Tanu Weds Manu fame producer Vinod Bachchan’s film Ginni Weds Sunny 2 is being shot in Dehradun, which stars Avinash Tiwari and 12th failed fame actress Medha Shankar in the lead roles. Along with them, experienced actors like Govind Namdev and Sudhir Pandey are also part of the film. At the same time, the shooting of Annu Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra and Bijendra Kala starring ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ is going on in Dehradun and Rishikesh.
As part of encouraging Uttarakhandi cinema these days, three films of Garhwali language * – Marcha, Teri Maya and Namak – are being shot in Dehradun, Tehri and Uttarkashi respectively. With the initiative of the state government, these films are also getting a lot of support from local folk culture, tradition and dialect, which is giving regional cinema a new direction and identity.
At the same time, the shooting of many notable Hindi films and web series in Uttarakhand has been completed in the past, including ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Vahi video’, ‘Tikdam’, ‘Do Patti’, ‘Putul’, ‘Rautu Ka Raj’, ‘Tanvi the Great’, ‘Past Tens’, ‘Kesari 2’ and ‘BV of my husband’ are prominent. In the year 2024 -25, 225 shooting permissions were released by the Uttarakhand government.
The Uttarakhand Film Development Council is constantly trying to establish the state as an attractive film production destination, where the confluence of culture, nature, technology and administrative cooperation provides special experience to filmmakers .
